The Best Wedding Venues in Toowoomba (From a Videographer's Perspective)
Toowoomba has quietly become one of our favourite places to film. The light out here is different - softer, golden, unhurried - and the venues have a character you don't get closer to the coast. As a husband-and-wife team who've filmed weddings right across the Darling Downs, we wanted to put together an honest guide to the venues we keep coming back to, and what each one means for your wedding film.
If you're planning a Toowoomba wedding and still deciding on a venue, here's what we've learned from behind the camera.
Gabbinbar Homestead
Gabbinbar is the kind of venue that does a lot of the storytelling for you. The heritage homestead, the sweeping verandahs, the gardens that roll out toward the Toowoomba escarpment - it's cinematic before we've even pressed record. We love the late-afternoon light here especially; it comes in low through the trees and turns the whole property gold for the last hour or two before sunset, creating a perfect backdrop for your location shoot.
We particularly love the Governor’s Lawn and Cedar Lawn for the ceremony location!
Colinton Country Lodge
Colinton feels more tucked-away and rural - rolling paddocks, established trees, a real sense of space. It suits couples who want their wedding film to feel grounded and unpolished in the best way, less "event venue," more "this is our place for the day." We find the wide-open grounds give us room to capture guests properly too - the small, in-between moments happening at the edges of the day, not just the formal ones.
Branell Homestead, Laidley
A little further out toward Laidley, Branell Homestead has a quieter, more intimate feel - it tends to suit smaller guest lists and couples who want their day to feel relaxed rather than produced. The homestead itself has beautiful old-world character, and the surrounding farmland gives us some genuinely striking wide shots for your wedding film.
Preston Peak Winery
Preston Peak is one of the more visually distinctive venues on this list - vineyard rows, mountain views, and a working winery setting that photographs and films differently to anywhere else on the Downs. It's a great fit for couples who want their wedding film to lean into the landscape itself.
Why Toowoomba Weddings Film So Well
Beyond the venues themselves, there's something about filming in Toowoomba that we genuinely enjoy. It's close enough to Brisbane that travel is easy, but far enough that the pace of the day tends to feel calmer - less rushed, more present. That matters for the kind of films we make. We work quietly, we stay out of the way, and more often than not couples tell us afterwards that they forgot we were even there - which is exactly the point. It means the quiet, in-between moments get captured too, not just the ones everyone's posing for.
